EAST COAST NEUTRAL

Achieving that effortless “cape cod” feel means leaning into texture, comfort, and a toned down palette.

II - Texture

When in doubt, choose organic texture. Wool, cotton, linen, and denim always look phenomenal on film. Synthetic textures tend to look flat and dated.

And organic textures are more comfortable! They move beautifully and you can move in them. Comfort is king!

III - Details

Accessorizing is all about simplicity and whimsy. I love when families have an item or an accessory that we save only for a few shots, but it brings the whole shoot to the next level. In this shoot, Leo had this little beach hat that stole the show. (Bonus points for texture!). I will often bring flowers, a blanket, or something fun to play with, but be creative!

I - Color

Simplicity is everything, and matching doesn’t matter. In these shots, Cayla and her kiddo are sporting a blend of creams, off-whites, khakis and taupes. And guess what? none of the colors match perfectly - but they look harmonious and organic. Mom’s bright white dress doesn’t compete with kiddo’s off-white linen top. It all works together to provide a lived-in, timeless shot.

When in doubt, blend whites and off-whites, neutral browns & beiges, and denim.
