The Piliponises
Some sessions just take on a life of their own, and this one with the Piliponis family on Cape Cod had such a fun, playful rhythm from the start.
We planned this as part of my seasonal Cape Cod sessions, but once Leo showed up in his dinosaur gear, it quickly became something else entirely. He’s deep in a dinosaur phase (the kind where it’s not just an interest, it’s a full identity), so we leaned all the way in—little dino toys tucked into the sand, hints of Jurassic Park energy woven into the session without taking it too seriously.
The beach gave us plenty of space to let that unfold. Running, exploring, stopping to dig or “discover” something new—it all felt really natural to him, which made everything else fall into place. His curiosity kind of led the way, and the rest of us just followed along.
That’s usually how these sessions work best anyway. Less direction, more noticing. Letting kids bring their full selves into it, even if that means dinosaurs on the beach.
There’s something about the tones in this session that feels especially soft and playful at the same time—muted sand, pale sky, and those small pops of color from Leo’s dinosaur details woven throughout. The movement carries a lot of the story, but the quieter frames hold just as much—small pauses, moments of focus, the way imagination and reality blur a little at this age. It all feels light, a little windswept, and fully rooted in his perspective.
There’s a mix in this gallery that I really love—those playful, imaginative moments alongside quieter ones where things slow down for a second. It never feels like stepping out of the story, just different parts of it.
I offer seasonal family photography on Cape Cod each year, alongside my work in and around Doylestown, PA and Bucks County. These sessions are always built to feel flexible and easy—whether that means chasing waves, following a kid’s latest obsession, or just letting the evening unfold as it wants to.
If you’re planning time on Cape Cod and want to document your family in a way that feels honest (and maybe a little bit imaginative too), I’d love to connect.
